About The Proprietor

Sam Semark lived around the world before settling in Pictou to run an inn. Born on a British RAF base in Germany, she grew up primarily in Belfast and Montreal. She earned a B.Sc. in agriculture from McGill University and went on to work at Bombardier (then Canadair), working on crack propagation in aircraft structures. She left Canada after a bit to practice rose gardening amongst black widow spiders in California.

After tiring of desert environments, Sam then moved to rainier pastures. She picked up an M.Sc. in Biological Computation from York, then worked in Cheltenham, England, at a hydraulics engineering company. She smoked a cigar at her wedding, and soon gave birth to a pair of monstrous and delightful children. Her new family picked up and moved to Holland for two years, where Sam learned to speak Dutch and tricycle her children around singing loudly.

Next stop: back to Canada, where Sam established a twenty-acre tree farm outside of Ottawa. After an amicable divorce, Sam established herself as a single mother, and returned to work. It was when working for the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing that she first visited Nova Scotia, in 1993, and fell in love at first sight. Over many years and jobs, Sam returned to NS whenever possible, until finally leaving the high-tech field to move down here, and become an innkeeper. And here she is!
